Looking for a Lawyer in Howard County, Maryland?

Howard County is unique in that it is one of the wealthiest counties in the country, on a per capita basis, yet it lacks some of the traditional hallmarks of more famous wealthy counties in the country. There are no notable country clubs and there are no famous resorts. The county is largely a bedroom county for people working in Washington DC and Baltimore. The western part of the county is farmland. The two largest cities in Howard County are Ellicott City and Columbia. Both are really part of the same metropolitan area. Ellicott City is much older and more established than Columbia.

Any given lawyer in Howard County would be more of the type you would find in exurbs all over Maryland. There aren’t large firms in the county as there is no need for them. There are no large corporations in Howard County who would need to hire a large firm to protect themselves from lawsuits. Most firms are solos (like myself) or have five or fewer attorneys.

When selecting a lawyer in this part of Maryland, make sure the attorney has experience in your area of concern. While Howard County firms are small, they are capable.

In my experience working in the county, I’ve learned that while there is no “type” of Howard County resident, residents do certainly have typical behaviors, which includes the ability to manage a budget. Most Howard County residents are unlikely to overspend or mismanage their finances. They understand that estate planning is a crucial part of their financial picture.

A local attorney who understands investing strategy is a part of all this, which is why, for those living in the area, finding a good lawyer in Howard County is crucial. There is no need to try to “sell” expensive estate planning programs like a revocable living trust. Estate planning remains largely for those who can afford it, unfortunately, but residents of this county know how to fit estate planning into their budget.
